The overarching ambition of the Air France-KLM Group is to become an essential leader in tomorrow's aviation sector. We assume our responsibilities as an employer, airline group and corporate citizen.
Air France-KLM thus recently established and published its corporate purpose in the company’s Articles of Incorporation. It designates a general interest ambition that we intend to pursue:
The objectives of Sustainable Development
In September 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. Agenda 2030 is composed of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity. By making sustainable development an integral part of our activities and operations, we strive to support the SDGs within our sphere of influence. We are making a significant contribution to the following goals:
We are contributing to SDG 3 “Good Health and Well-being”
through our support for emergency relief and mutual aid associations by carrying medical equipment, medicines and vaccines across the world thanks to our dense and diversified network.
We are contributing to SDG 5 “Gender Equality”
by working on professional equality between men and women, and by promoting diversity and inclusion across the business and in our value chain. We also support initiatives aimed at educating young girls on the employment opportunities in the technical and digital industries.
We are contributing to SDG 7 “Affordable and Clean Energy”
We are constantly reducing the energy consumption in our ground operations, improving our energy efficiency and increasing the proportion of renewable energy for the power supply in our buildings. One example of our commitment is our investment in a fleet of electric ramp equipment and vehicles. Procurement and our contribution to the development of sustainable aviation fuel, our first lever in decarbonization, enables us to reduce the use of fossil energy.
We are contributing to SDG 8 “Decent Work and Economic Growth”
We are contributing to inclusive and sustainable economic growth in France, the Netherlands and the regions where we operate. We provide qualified jobs with high added-value, and we promote the employability and personal development of our employees thanks to training. Throughout our supply chain, we create jobs and indirect economic activity.
We are contributing to SDG 9 “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure”
To make the aviation industry more sustainable and more efficient in the use of resources, we support research and innovation projects. We are actively mobilizing the sector to develop an international market for sustainable aviation fuels through, for example, our Air France-KLM Corporate SAF Program.
We are contributing to SDG 10 “Reduced Inequalities”
We are committed to fostering a climate of trust and mutual respect in a working environment where no form of discrimination, micro-aggression or harassment is tolerated. Various initiatives have been implemented in the airlines to support this commitment.
We are contributing to SDG 12 “Responsible Production and Consumption”
We are committed to guaranteeing responsible methods of production and consumption through our strategies and targets on waste reduction and responsible catering. By working closely with our worldwide suppliers, we factor sustainability into our supply chain. We choose products and services that reduce our environmental impact and include a social and societal dimension. We also apply the principles of the circular economy by reducing, reusing and recycling waste.
We are contributing to SDG 13 “Climate Action”
Our decarbonization strategy sets forth our strategy to reduce our impact on climate change is composed of six major priorities, for which we have established targets and implemented our actions. To limit our carbon footprint, we are targeting a reduction of Net-Zero carbon emissions intensity of 30% in 2030 compared to 2019 in Revenue Ton Kilometer (RTK).
We are contributing to SDG 17 “Partnerships for the Goals”
A permanent dialogue with our stakeholders and the implementation of partnerships enable us to participate in the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals. We notable offer our customers solutions to reduce their carbon footprint and support environmental projects to develop innovative solutions. We also deploy a responsible procurement policy enshrining the principles of societal responsibility in our relations with suppliers.
We contribute more directly to other SDGs, like SDG 1 “No Poverty” and SDG 2 “Zero Hunger” though our support for emergency relief and mutual aid associations, and also SDG 4 “Quality Education” through our partners focused on education.
